FAQ

What is semi-permanent make-up?

Semi-permanent make-up is an innovative procedure which is a totally safe form of cosmetic tattooing, where pigment is implanted into the upper reticular dermal layer of the skin using a digital microblading machine to create the subtle effect of make-up. It can be referred to as, micro-pigmentation, PMU, Permanent make up, semi-permanent make -up, digital microblading or tattooing. It will enhance your natural features, give you a subtle look and you still have the option of using conventional make-up to change your look to suit any occasion.

How long will the treatment take?

This depends on the area being treated. The actual procedure can take from 45-60mins, however more time is allocated for each appointment so careful mapping and a full consultation can be carried out first, so we like to allocate 2-2.30hrs.

Will it be painful?

This can vary from person to person depending on each individuals pain threshold and the procedure performed. It can feel scratchy, some areas maybe more sensitive than other areas, it can be slightly uncomfortable for some clients and others feel hardly anything at all. Every effort is made to reduce the discomfort for the client with the help of creams which are applied prior and during the treatment to reduce any unnecessary pain.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Immediately after the treatment you may experience mild swelling, redness, this will reduce within 2/3hrs. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately after, however high intensity exercise and make up in the treated area is not advised. The treated area will look considerably darker for the first few days and then will reduce by 30-50% as the skin heals and rejuvenates revealing a more natural look. As soon as your procedure is finished your body will start to heal. The skin will close and you may see a thin, crust like layer which will protect the area whilst the skin heals. After a few days this layer will come away to reveal the pigment.

How long will it take to heal?

A few days after the procedure a light crust will form over the treated area, it may feel dry, itchy and tight. The area will look very dark at this early stage but over a few days the crust will fall away and the colour will lighten by 30-50%. On week 2/3 the colour will fade to nothing, then around week 4 is where the true colour will begin to show as the skin rejuvenates. At week 4-8 is where a top is needed.

How long will it last?

This varies and very much depends on age, skin type, lifestyle and aftercare. Although colour can last for up to 2/3 years it will fade and become lighter over time, it is recommended to maintain the fresh look with a colour boost procedure every  6-24 months depending on the colour retention.

What is a top up and why is it important?

The full healing process normally takes 4 weeks and only then can we assess the procedure and make any improvements. A top up perfects the treatment to add /enhance colour, change/perfect the shape and also to keep it looking fresh. After this a refresh between 6-18 months is advised. This is a two stage process and is not completed until you have had both treatments. Your 2nd treatment/top up should be within 4-8 weeks.
